School Rebuilding Programme (SRP) – University Academy Long Sutton

University Academy Long Sutton was been chosen as part of the Government’s 10-year School Rebuilding Programme (SRP), a programme designed to upgrade school buildings across England that were considered to be in the worst condition. Of more than 22,000 schools and sixth form colleges, University Academy Long Sutton was prioritised by the Department for Education as one of 61 schools within Phase 3 of this programme.

Dobson-Grey served as the planning consultant and public consultation coordinator, with additional responsibility for stakeholder engagement. Planning was approved under Officers’ delegated powers.

  • Neighbour: Through early and proactive engagement, Dobson-Grey were able to avoid an objection being lodged by a neighbour who had initially expressed a number of specific concerns regarding the proposals.
  • Sport England: Through early and proactive engagement with Sport England Dobon-Grey were able to avoid an objection from Sport England relating to the loss of playing fields.
  • Discharge of Conditions: Constant dialogue with the planning officer minimised the number of planning conditions attached to the decision and ensured that pre-commencement conditions were discharged promptly, thus avoiding construction delays.
  • Stakeholder Management: The project involved a diverse range of stakeholders, including the school’s staff, students, parents, sports centre, local nursery, contractors, and the local community. Effective communication and collaboration was essential to managing expectations and ensuring a successful outcome.
